Physical reconditioning is a program designed to increase an injured employee's
strength and stamina and return him or her to work as soon as possible.
After an injury at work, an employee may begin to decondition due to the inactivity
associated with being off work. In Physical Reconditioning the patient participates in
a flexibility program, cardiovascular exercise and resistance training to increase strength
and stamina. This takes place in structured two-hour sessions, 3 to 5 times per week in
the Holzer Health Center under the supervision of our Rehabilitation Department clinicians.
This program utilizes a 12-piece Nautilus circuit, free weights, treadmills, upper body
ergometers, stationary bicycles, stair steppers, and a flexibility class designed by our
physical and occupational therapists. The next step, if needed, is a program called
Work Simulation.
