July 28, 2011, Location - As the average age of the U.S. population increases,
the incidence of diabetes and other diseases that contribute to chronic wounds increases with it.
Recognizing an overall increase in acute, chronic non-healing wounds, particularly those related
to complications of diabetes, and understanding the need for advanced technologies in treating these
wounds, Holzer is excited to announce an impending new partnership with National Healing Corporation.
Holzer and National Healing plan the construction of a comprehensive leading-edge outpatient wound
care facility in Jackson, OH. This new 2,000 square foot Wound Healing Center will be located within
Holzer Clinic Jackson at 280 Pattonsville Road.
Chronic wound healing situations often include a variety of complications. They require
specialized equipment and staffing expertise. “Holzer’s Wound Healing Center will provide an
integrated team of specialists including a panel of local physicians trained in leading edge
therapeutic methods as well as updated with the latest information about the industry, policies
and procedures. Working with the most sophisticated medical equipment and the latest techniques,
Holzer’s team will treat chronic, difficult-to-heal wounds such as pressure ulcers, venous ulcers,
diabetic ulcers, bone infections, post-operative infections, and surgical wounds,” stated T. Wayne
Munro, President of Holzer Clinic and Chief Operating Officer of Holzer Consolidated Health System.
“This is another example of Holzer bringing new clinical services to our patients, helping them to
avoid long travel distances for care that can be furnished close to home,” he added.
Holzer’s physician-driven collaborative team approach to wound care will provide the most
advanced therapies available in a state-of-the-art environment. The center will feature hyperbaric
oxygen therapy (HBOT), a treatment in which the patient breathes 100 percent oxygen inside a
pressurized chamber. HBOT quickly delivers high concentrations of oxygen to the bloodstream and
assists in the healing process of wounds. It is also effective in fighting certain types of infections,
stimulating the growth of new blood vessels, and improving circulation. Additional treatment
options will include debridement, bio-engineered tissue substitutes, negative pressure wound therapy,
and platelet technologies. Such therapies can help patients avoid possible amputation of limbs,
debilitating health problems, and life-threatening infections.
By partnering with National Healing, Holzer will bring southern Ohio the latest wound healing
advancements and evidence-based clinical processes and procedures which have been tested in world
renowned centers across the country.
