Merkel, M.D. has joined the Holzer Clinic Lawrence County multi-specialty group practice in Proctorville. As a family practice physician, Dr. Merkel delivers a full range of acute, chronic and preventive medical care including routine checkups, chronic illness care, health-risk assessments, immunizations, health maintenance plans as well as coordination of specialty care. Dr. Merkel formerly practiced at the South Point Family Medical Center in South Point, Ohio.

Dr. Merkel received his medical education from University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in Cincinnati, Ohio. He completed his internship and residency at Akron City Hospital in Akron, Ohio. Dr. Merkel is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians as well as the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians.
