on Cancer in congratulating Alice A. Dachowski, MD, General Surgeon at Holzer Clinic for being named
a recipient of the Commission on Cancer’s Liaison Physician Outstanding Performance Award for 2007.
This is the second year in a row that this distinguished honor has been bestowed upon Dr. Dachowski.
She is among only three percent of Cancer Liaison Physicians in the country and only two in Ohio to
be recognized by the Commission for her leadership and exceptional cancer care. Only 52 other
physicians in the US, representing 22 states, have been chosen to receive this extraordinary
award.
The Cancer Liaison Physician Outstanding Performance Award recognizes individuals who go above
and beyond the regular scope of their duties. Cancer Liaison Physicians (CLPs) were nominated for
excellence in the following area(s):
- Improving the quality of care delivered at a CoC approved facility
- Contributing to the Approval status of the Cancer program
- Exceeding CLP exceptions to strengthen the Cancer program
- Demonstrating cancer control leadership in the community
- Serving as a champion and role model for other staff
Cancer Liaison Physicians (CLPs) are charged with the task of spearheading CoC initiatives.
They are physician champions—responsible for providing leadership and direction to establish,
maintain, and support their facility’s cancer program; improve clinical practice at the local
level; and collaborate with local agencies to reduce the burden of cancer in the community. CLPs
serve a three-year term with eligibility to serve an unlimited number of terms.
Dr. Dachowski has served as its Cancer Liaison Physician for the past 15 years. In that role, she
has worked diligently on the local, state and national level to improve the quality of cancer care at
Holzer Clinic and Holzer Medical Center. She is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons
and serves as an advocate for the Ohio Breast and Cervical Cancer Project. Dr. Dachowski also provides
free breast and skin cancer screenings as well as health and cancer related presentations to
organizations and groups throughout Southern Ohio and West Virginia.
Dr. Dachowski received her undergraduate degree in Biology from Chestnut Hill College in Pennsylvania
and received her medical degree from the Washington University School of Medicine. She completed her
internship and residency in general surgery at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and has been
associated with Holzer Clinic and Holzer Medical Center since 1986.She also serves on the Ohio State
Medical Society’s Continuing Medical Education Task Force and is a Govenor for the American College of
Surgeons. She is a member of the board of trustees for the University of Rio Grande. She and her
husband,Dr. Edward Dachowski, live in Gallipolis and are co-chairs of the Cancer Survivor Committee for
the Gallia County Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society.
